Supply Air and Return Air Work Together

A balanced air-distribution system needs both a supply path and a return path.

Supply Air

Carries conditioned air from the HVAC equipment to occupied spaces.

What Is Static Pressure?

Static pressure is resistance to airflow inside the HVAC system. Air has to move through filters, coils, ductwork, fittings, dampers, registers and grilles.

Static pressure should be evaluated in the context of the equipment and system design.

Capacity Myth

Bigger Ductwork Does Not Create More Heating or Cooling

Ductwork distributes the capacity produced by the HVAC equipment. Increasing duct size does not increase the furnace or air conditioner's rated output. The duct system should be designed to deliver the required airflow appropriately.

Can Airrand install new ductwork?

Can existing ductwork be modified?

Why is one room hotter or colder than the others?

Uneven temperatures can be related to airflow, duct design, return air, insulation, building heat gain or loss, equipment capacity or system setup. It should be evaluated as part of the complete HVAC system.

Can you add a new supply vent?

Potentially. The existing duct system, available airflow, branch location and return-air path should be reviewed before adding a new supply branch.

Why are my vents noisy?

Noisy vents can be related to restrictive grilles, high air velocity, duct sizing, fittings, loose metal, vibration or equipment airflow. Noise is often a system issue rather than one isolated part.

What is static pressure?

Static pressure is resistance to airflow inside the HVAC system. Filters, coils, ductwork, fittings, dampers, registers and grilles all add resistance that the blower has to work through.

Does bigger ductwork mean more airflow?

Not automatically. Airflow depends on the complete system, including blower performance, duct layout, fittings, registers, return air and equipment requirements.

Can ductwork be moved during a renovation?

Often yes, but structure, ceiling space, airflow, service access and other building systems need to be considered before ductwork is moved.

Should ductwork be insulated?

Some ductwork should be insulated depending on location, air temperature, condensation risk, building conditions and application. It is not one universal requirement for every duct.

What is spiral duct?
